Coffee Table Sets

No home will be complete without any furniture. Coffee table sets are amongst the most essential furniture for a home. A coffee table set typically includes a coffee table and one or more end tables. Sometimes, a sofa table is also included. Usually set up in a living room, it completes the whole living room setting. It is usually chosen to complement the whole theme of the living room or the house.

Coffee table sets are available in many designs, shapes, sizes and brand names. Homeowners are spoiled with choices of rectangular, round and oval shapes. Coffee tables are made of various different materials such as wrought iron, stainless steel, marble, and glass. Some are made of high-quality wood like teak and oak. Some coffee tables are added with glass tops. Depending on the theme of the living room, homeowners can choose antique wrought iron coffee tables for the classic Victorian look. Otherwise, those who like simple, modern look can opt for teak or oak coffee tables in rich burgundy or dark brown. Some coffee tables are made of rare materials such as rattan. These give the overall Asian or Tiki look for the living room, especially for beach houses or homes in a tropical country.

Most coffee tables are designed with drawers for convenient storing and organizing. Some drawers come with locks for privacy and safety. Some coffee tables have matching sofas or settees that are relatively cheaper than buying them separately. Other interesting features that some coffee tables have are removable glass tops. This allows homeowners to remove the glass top, arrange photos or artwork on the table and put the glass back on the tabletop to protect them. Some coffee tables have a compartment under the glass top and this is great as small, decorative items can be arranged in it. For example, pebbles can be arranged in it to achieve the Zen look.

Coffee table sets are essential in every home. They serve as excellent decorative pieces. They are also functional during parties when entertaining guests. Coffee tables with intricate designs may also be great conversation starters. They are crucial furniture for living rooms, as they help complement the theme of the room. Coffee tables with removable, transparent glass tops can serve as photo or artwork displays. They will certainly add aesthetic value to the theme, excellent for art lovers or photography enthusiasts to exhibit their work. Coffee tables can also be decorated with a vase of fresh flowers or a bowl of water with floating tea lights. Some people prefer arranging a few aromatherapy candles on them, while others resort in an assortment on books or magazines.

The first area of a home that guests will see is the living room. Therefore, it is important that the living room be decorated in a theme that portrays the host's personality. No other furniture describes a homeowner's individuality better than his or her choice of coffee tables. With manufacturers designing and making more coffee table sets every year, homeowners will never be out of designs to choose.

A Guide To Contemporary Wine Racks

When traditional just will not suffice, contemporary wine racks are the style you need. With today's housing becoming more modern, bold statements can add zest to a room. Whether you are looking for a wine rack to hold a couple scrumptious bottles of wine or something to hold a more substantial collection, there are always models that will appeal to you.

Glass Top Tables Dining

When selecting contemporary wine racks, it is important to decide if you have the space for freestanding wine racks or if smaller, table top wine racks are best. Freestanding wine racks can take up valuable floor space, but table top wine racks can add bulk to small tables. Hanging wine racks can save space, but they do take up wall or ceiling space. Another important aspect is if you prefer the look of metal, glass, leather, plastic, or wood. Wine racks are available in many woods and metals, so it is best to have an idea of what suits your tastes and needs.

Glass Top Tables Dining

Freestanding contemporary wine racks offer a number of unique attributes. Freestanding racks often blend the functionality of a buffet table with storage for your wine drinking needs. This wine rack can solve all of your tricky storage issues in one shot. Freestanding racks typically contain storage for both wine bottles and wine glasses. In many models, the top opens up revealing hidden storage for wine openers, trivets, and other wine accessories. Contemporary wine racks balance a more modern look with storage space.

Table top racks come in all shapes and styles. Choosing eye-catching table top wine racks adds flair to any kitchen or dining room. Wine racks of this style are intended to form the centerpiece of your dining room table. Push aside your plain salt and pepper shakers and replace them with a stunning wine rack. The majority of these racks hold between three and twelve bottles of wine. When you have a large group of wine drinking friends dining at your house, this type of rack makes it easy to remain at the table while serving another bottle of wine. You do not need to worry about missing conversations while you run to the kitchen to retrieve a new bottle of wine.

Studies show that drinking a glass of red wine daily can be beneficial to your health. Keep a few bottles of wine stored in contemporary wine racks, and enjoy partaking in a glass of a tasty red at dinnertime.

A Pool Dining Table is the New Dining Table

A pool dining table is the best compromise when you want a pool table and the only place in your house for it, is the dining room. Because of this the pool diner is usually a very impressive piece of furniture and looks good whether in dining mode or pool table mode. The only fly in the ointment is that the height of a pool table is slightly higher than a dining table by about 3 inches or so. So remember this when ordering chairs for it. Often the pool dining table manufacture supply chairs as well at the correct height.

Glass Top Tables Dining

Another solution to the height problem is having a rise and fall mechanism to elevate the table when in pool playing mode and let it fall again for dining. This is very common in the snooker dining table as well. This does add somewhat to the cost however.

Glass Top Tables Dining

Now these tables are not cheap, but they do serve a dual purpose and the way to look at it is that you don't have to buy a dining table as well (anything to talk yourself into it) and they do look rather special when you see them up in your dining room. But before you rush off and get one, check you have the room for one, add 10 ft to the table dimensions to get the ideal cueing area around the table, so for a 7 ft pool diner you will need a room of 17 ft by 14 ft to allow for playing the game.

There are different methods of achieving the dining and pool transformation, some tables are what you call swivel tables, where the table top is literally swivelled in place to reveal the pool table area when converted to playing mode, or a simple table top is supplied to cover the pool table when dining. Both are effective, and the big advantage of the swivel table is that there is no table top to lift off and put back on, the disadvantage of the swivel table is that there is a wood frame all around the pool table playing area so it looks like the pool table has been placed on top of the dining table.

The designs of the pool dining table encompass both traditional and contemporary looks to fit in with your décor so you can match up one with your room no problem at all. Just imagine having friends round for dinner then clearing the table ready for a game of pool in minutes, the best of both worlds, but beware you may end up inviting people for dinner much more often.

The Elements of Fine Service in Fine Dining

In a restaurant truly worthy of "fine dining," the service ought to match the cuisine, and both ought to defy your command of superlative adjectives. "Exquisite," "perfect," and "awesome" ought to seem slightly inadequate to the demands of describing both the salacious melange of flavours in each dish and the courtesy and precision with which each dish arrives at your table.

Glass Top Tables Dining

In everyday fine dining experience, good food often compensates for mediocre service, and guaranteed 15% gratuity often drains the motivation out of an otherwise well-trained server. Willing to settle for a little friendliness and some common courtesy, everyday fine diners often do not know the finer points of good service.

Glass Top Tables Dining

You are properly seated at a comfortable table-The hostess or Maitre D' warmly greets you, inquires to the number in your party, and then inquires about your seating preference. When you arrive at your table, your guide ought to ask you, once again, whether or not you feel satisfied with your seating. If you are right next to the kitchen or the bathrooms, you have every right to request a better spot.

The hostess or Maitre D' should hold the chairs for the ladies, starting with the oldest.

The table itself should be set with a linen table cloth and proper silver, including salad a dessert forks arranged properly. A skilled hostess or Maitre D' may expertly place your napkin across your lap. Certainly, he or she will encourage you, "Please, enjoy your meal,"

Your server greets you, suggests a lovely beverage, and offers assistance with your choices -Your server promptly greets you, introducing himself or herself. A good guest, you will remember your server's name. Your server welcomes you warmly and suggests the bartender's best mix or a beverage that suits the weather. As you order cocktails, the busboys fill your water glasses, bring iced butter and a butter knife, and your bread. Your server will tell you about the daily specials or the restaurant's best dishes. Do not ask the server's preferences, but feel free to inquire about the most popular menu items.

The meal proceeds with respect for proper timing
Your server delivers your food from the left and removes used plates from the right, taking away excess silver and glassware as you progress from course to course. Unless you have not finished your drink, your cocktail glass should be gone before the wine service begins.

Just as you finish one course, the next course arrives. In the brief interval between courses, the busboy clears your table and uses a fine sterling scraper to remove crumbs from your table cloth. In the best establishments, the servers may change tablecloths between courses.

As soon as you have taken two bites of each food item, your server ought to inquire whether it is prepared to your taste. If the dish is not satisfactory, politely return it to the kitchen. If you simply do not like it, take a few more bites and set it aside. As you continue with your meal, your server or busboy will monitor your table's condition, removing plates and silverware with which you have finished. Proper service demands that the staff must not stack the plates, but thoughtful guests may stack plates to make the staff's job easier. Always place your used plates to your right, helping the staff do the job correctly.

Your server should be wise and skilled enough to suggest a dessert that actually complements your meal. Remember that sherry and aperitifs count as dessert; wait for your server to suggest dessert beverages, too.

The server discretely presents the check-Unless you have given other instructions, the server will present the check to the oldest male at the table. Patriarchy still rules. The server ought to deliver the check silently, unobtrusively, thanking the person to whom he presents the check with a nod or a gesture.

Vertical Blinds For Sliding Glass Doors

Vertical blinds are superior to other window treatments for sliding glass doors in may ways. For starters, vertical blinds are usually much less expensive than other options. They do not take as long to make, and the material to make them is cheaper than both plantation shutters and cellular shades. The only part of a vertical blind that takes any time to manufacture is the track or head rail. The slats normally come already punched (each slat has a hole punched in the top to attach to the head rail mechanism) and just have to get cut to length. The track, valance, and slats for a vertical blind can be built in less than an hour. A bypass door system on the other hand can take may hours to finish. This extra labor is added to your cost at time of purchase.

Glass Top Tables Dining

The material to build a vertical blind is also cheaper. The vertical consists of an aluminum head rail and pvc louvers (they can also be fashioned from cloth) where as plantation shutters use pre fabricated wood, vinyl, or composite material. A cellular shade is made from a special paper like fabric which is also more expensive than vertical material. The biggest factor in determining the cost of a window treatment is the material and verticals are the clear winner in this case.

Glass Top Tables Dining

The biggest advantage verticals have over their competition is durability replacement cost. A lot of us have young children or pets at home that often get into our windows or sliders. A cellular shade will not last a day with a dog that jumps on the windows anytime there is a knock at the door. A vertical blind however is made from sturdier material and will withstand a pet jumping on them. If your pet decides to take a bite out of slats, they can be easily replaced by the consumer. If your dog were to chew some louvers of your plantation shutter, the whole door will typically have to go back to the factory to get repaired. Keep in mind, warranties on your window treatments do not cover pet damage. When paying to have the treatment fixed, you will be paying the original square footage base price plus labor.

Another often overlooked advantage of vertical blinds is the ability to change out the louvers. If you decide to paint your room, change the decor, or just feel like changing with the seasons, the louvers of a vertical blind can easily be taken out and new ones put in. This is something the homeowner can do themselves and should not require any installation fees from your retailer. Simply measure one of your louvers, or take one down and bring it with you, and tell the salesperson how many of them you need to have made. What other window treatment gives you this flexibility?

Appreciating Contemporary Coffee Table Designs (1920s to 1950s)

Short History Lesson

One fine memorable piece is the small Eileen Grey Inspired Cocktail table which was originally designed in 1926 by one of the most influential designers of that time. Since this time it has been used as a bedside table, but it could also be positioned in any open living area or bar room.

The Eileen Gray Cocktail Table is slightly longer than other glass coffee tables and it fits in more confined quarters. The creator of it was a big fan of work completed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and she met other famous people in design school such as Jessie Gavin and Kathleen Bruce.

Another famous piece of work is the Barcelona Coffee Table which dates back to Mies Van Der Rohe. He inspired this very design in 1930. About a year after this fashionable item was initially designed, it was set in a house in Brno, Czechoslovakia.

This piece was matched with the Brno chair. It is characterised by the 100 cm square wide piece of clear glass that sits on top of a four-legged base. The base is usually constructed of some durable material such as chromed steel.

The Round Plywood Table Inspired by Charles Eames is another item worth mentioning at because it also has quite a bit of history attached to it. This home interior piece was manufactured for the first time after the design was first released in the mid-1940s. It historically was positioned in a room with lounge chairs or dining chairs produced of like materials (ash wood).

Similarly, the Black Plywood Table was also inspired by Charles Eames. This one was also made in the mid-1940s, but instead of being made with all wood it consists of an ash wood top and metal legs. It has a moulded edge to make it appears indented. Historically, it has had many uses.

The ETR Elliptical Surfboard Coffee Table is another extraordinary example of a contemporary coffee table that was popular in the early 1950s. Charles and Ray Eames were the leading constructors of this table model. This table is most noted for its tower wire frame bases and metal cross struts.

Many more contemporary coffee table models have been produced over this period of time. These are placed in very strategic locations of a home to create just the right affect and to represent a certain decoration theme.
